Nuclear Cardiology Procedures

Myocardial Perfusion Scan (a.k.a. Nuclear Stress Test): A tracer dye is injected into the blood stream which the heart picks up. This dye is taken into the cells to show blood supply. Pictures are taken which show images of how well your heart is getting its blood supply. The objective of using a treadmill is to get your heart-rate to a certain rate, based on your age. If this rate is reached, a second tracer will be injected and a second set of images will be taken. After both sets of images are taken, the test is complete. There is a wait while the images are developed and then you will see the doctor. Plan on one to two hours for the testing and then another hour to see the doctor afterwards.

Rule Out Myocardial Ischemia Outpatient (ROMIO) Test: This test is an urgently scheduled test done for patients that are referred from an ER and/or Instacare. The test is performed in the same manner as the Myocardial Perfusion Scan and after both sets of images are taken, the patient will see the doctor who will then give the patient the results. The reports will be sent to the patient's primary care doctor, referring physician and ER or Instacare that they were referred from. Plan on an hour for the testing and then another hour for the results from the doctor.
